I've never been a huge fan of Justin Timberlake, but I am really digging his new single, SexyBack. I'd heard that he was doing a new style of album, hearkening back to the sexy funk of Prince -- an album to not even utilize Justin's well-known falsetto. This is a very synth-focused arrangement with a steadily pulsating 4/4 beat, so of course I like the music.
The lyrics aren't anything special, but they work well in the context of this song. I do especially like the first line: "I'm bringing sexy back (yeah), them other boys don't know how to act." I'm sure all the gay boys will love that one too. The bit about being a slave, and "I'll let you whip me if I misbehave" is another gem.
The chorus, with its grinding litany of sexuality, is a get-in-your-head-and-stick
-there interlude. I'm sure plenty of listeners will "drink some of him," indeed, after they have the chance to rock out to this song. I'm not so sure about the voice calling out the parts of the song, which reminds me of Tom Jones; but I suppose that gives this song an aura of sexual credibility, given Tom Jones' reputation with female fans.
And no, you won't find any falsetto crooning in SexyBack.
